World of Tanks
World of Tanks is a massively multiplayer online vehicular warfare game developed by Wargaming Minsk. The free-to-play game pits players against each other in player vs player tank battles featuring armored vehicles from the Pre-World War 2 era to the Cold War.
A player controls a single armored vehicle in a random battle that takes place on a map. A typical battle has 15 players on each team and a maximum of 30 minutes to destroy all opposing vehicles or capture their base. Players may also participate in platoons, groups of two or three players who are assigned to the same team. Additional game modes including Historical Battle and Rampage are available but are not as common as random and team-training matches.
In the game, a player may upgrade their tank by installing components from different branches of the tech tree with experience points earned in battle. Each branch of the tech tree has a specific set of requirements that must be met before a component can be installed on a tank. Some parts of a tank require a certain level of research to be installed, while others can be upgraded after completing several missions or reaching a specific rank in the game.
The game has an in-game virtual currency called gold that can be used to unlock new tanks, research upgrades, and purchase consumables. Real-world cash can also be spent to speed up the research and unlocking process, though the vast majority of players play for free.
